An observant witness in Pueblo County led to the arrest of the suspect in a vehicle theft.
The Pueblo County Sheriff’s Office says that around 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, a caller notified them that a suspicious looking man was walking down West Highway 78 in Pueblo County, trying to solicit a ride. The caller told deputies that a Qwest van had been left at the side of the road.
Deputies and Communication Officers were able to link the information about the van the witness saw to a Qwest van reported stolen earlier Wednesday from the area of 13th Street and Baxter in Pueblo. Once at the scene, deputies found the man the caller had reported. The man, identified as 24-year-old Blaine Dowel, matched the description of the suspect in the vehicle theft and was arrested. While searching Dowel, deputies found two concealed handguns and less than an ounce of marijuana. Dowel was also identified as a convicted felon in Kansas.
Dowel is being held at the Pueblo County Jail with no bond. He is being held on charges of possession of a weapon by a previous offender, aggravated motor vehicle theft, unlawful carrying of a concealed weapon and possession of marijuana under 1 ounce.
