Three people were taken to the hospital following a collision in which a van rear-ended a semi that was hauling fuel. The crash happened just before 9:00 a.m. and the roadway was reopened around 10:40 a.m.
Troopers say that the Chevrolet van and the fuel truck, operated by Groendyke Transport, were both headed southbound. They suspect the van's driver may have fallen asleep before rear-ending the semi about 23 miles south of Pueblo.
The van was badly damaged and leaked fuel on the roadway. Three people from the van were taken to Parkview with unknown injuries.
The semi was not badly damaged and the driver was uninjured.
State Police say the investigation is ongoing.
