Police say a man accidentally ran over his niece at her house in Pueblo. Thomas Avila, 28, was reportedly behind the wheel.
Investigators say a group of kids was playing in a pool at the house just before the accident happened. The three girls decided to lay in the front driveway to dry off. Two kids went inside to get their towels. One girl, a 23-month-old, remained in the driveway. Avila told police he accidentally ran over the child in the drive-way of his mother’s house in the 2100 block of E. 5th. Police were still trying to determine if Avila was pulling into or backing up out of the drive-way when the accident happened.
Police do not suspect drugs or alcohol. When the investigation is finished, they will forward to DA’s office to determine if there will be criminal charges.
