Man Accused In DUI Crash That Killed 3 Girls Made Court Appearance

A man's decision to drink and drive shattered the lives of three families one terrible night in April, authorities allege. Monday, he stood in front of a judge as future court dates were set leading up to his upcoming trial.

Authorities say Gilbert Sanchez, 36, drank several beers and possibly vodka prior to getting into his truck and speeding through the streets of Pueblo, hitting over 100 mph when he ran a red light and collided with a car carrying three teen girls. The girls were on their way home from a church event at the time of the crash.

The three girls were killed, while Sanchez's own young passengers were seriously injured after being thrown from his truck.

Sanchez faces numerous charges, including six counts of vehicular homicide, four counts of vehicular assault, two counts of child abuse and endangerment, DUI, reckless driving, and running a red light.

Sanchez will return to court October 15 for a motions hearing. Ahead of Monday's court appearance, it was believed Sanchez's trial date would be set, but the judge did not make that decision Monday.
