Updated: 05/14/2013 - I'm still focused on meeting my goal of doing a pull-up. And I'm almost there! But I'm always getting this question:
The city known as the “Home of Heroes” now has a new housing complex for our military heroes.
Homeless veterans living in Pueblo will soon have a roof over their heads. It’s estimated that there are close to 644,000 homeless people in the United States and of that number, 23 percent are U.S. military vets. Pueblo teamed up with Posada Inc. and the U.S. Department of Housing in opening the first housing project designed specifically for vets. Housing officials say this will fill an important need in our community.
“The apartment units also have handicap accessibility, so it will be a place for them to call home that’s decent, safe and sanitary," said Ada Clark, Director of Housing for City of Pueblo.
The East 4th Street properties were previously abandoned and boarded up. The city purchased the units and rebuilt them into a 16-unit complex that’s now affordable housing for vets. This was made possible by a $1.8 million grant from the state of Colorado’s Division of Housing.
