A man escaped without injury, but lost his home when it caught fire Tuesday night.
According to the Pueblo County Sheriff’s Office, the fire was reported at 11:16 p.m. at 45493 Fields Rd. in Avondale. The 65-year-old homeowner called 911 after he was awoken by popping sounds coming from his roof. He looked out through a window and saw the fire.
When deputies and firefighters arrived, they found flames bursting through the roof and spreading through the interior of the home. They say that by the time the fire was extinguished, the structure was a total loss.
So far, the cause of the fire is unknown. The resident did report using a wood-burning stove to heat the home, but it isn’t known if that is related to the fire.
