A young boy is safe and has been returned to his father after a more than two-hour-long search Monday morning.

According to Pueblo police, when Bruce Olivas went to check on his 8-year-old son around 8 a.m. Monday, the boy was nowhere to be found. The child's pajamas, which he had been seen wearing the night before, were still in the room, while a pair of Nike sandals and an in-line scooter were gone.

Residents on the east side of town received an emergency alert call regarding the boy's disappearance two hours after he was reported missing.

At 10:13 a.m., the child was located in the area of Troy Avenue and 7th Street, riding on his scooter. The clerk at a nearby store confirmed to police that the boy had entered the store two or three times throughout the morning, purchasing small items each time.

Police say they do not know why the boy wandered off, but that he is safe and sound.
