Two tickets, out of a possible 280,000, will win $1,000,000 on Saturday. Sales for the Millionaire Raffle, a game from the Colorado Lottery started off slowly. Director of the Colorado Lottery Able Tapia was concerned that at one point with just a few weeks left before the drawing, about half the tickets had not been sold. However, Wednesday evening, only about 25,000 tickets remain.
The game has the best odds of winning the top prize than any other lottery jackpot game. Because of the limited number of tickets available, odds of taking home a million bucks are 1 in 140,000. The odds of winning a Powerball or Mega Millions jackpot don't even come close.
The odds of winning a $10,000 prize in Powerball are 1 in 723,145; in Mega Millions the odds are 1 in 689,065; in Millionaire Raffle the odds are 1 in 70,000.
There are four prize levels to Millionaire Raffle, the grand prize is $1,000,000. Two tickets will win the grand prize. Three tickets will be chosen to win $100,000. Four tickets will win $10,000. And 500 tickets will win $1,000.
Each ticket for Millionaire Raffle costs $20, and will be available as long as supplies last or until Friday night when sales close at 11:59 p.m., whichever comes first.
Saturday Jan. 1, 2011 Lottery officials will draw and announce the winners in Pueblo. The winning numbers will be announced at a public gathering on the Historic Arkansas Riverwalk at noon.
Tapia says, he wants to set a festive mood for the announcement and will be handing out free scratch tickets to the first 100 people to show up the day of the event. "I can't imagine it better than someone starting the new year being the winner of a million dollar prize," says Tapia.
