The woman accused in a stabbing that left a 35-year-old man disemboweled is in court Monday.
Shereen Nieves, 22, faces charges of first-degree attempted murder. She has been in custody at the Pueblo County Jail.
Pueblo police say the fight started around 2 a.m. July 10 at the El Paisano's bar on the 2500 block of Lake Avenue. Witnesses told police that Jesus Gutierrez was involved in a fight with a group of women, who were at the bar with Gutierrez' estranged wife.
Once the fight moved outside, police say Nieves, a friend of the wife, stabbed Gutierrez in the stomach, disemboweling him. Police Sgt. Eric Bravo said a police officer found the stomach and took it to the hospital, but surgeons were not able to reattach it.
Nieves was arrested for first-degree attempted murder, and in custody at the Pueblo County Jail.
Gutierrez remains in critical condition at Parkview Hospital.
