A man accused of kidnapping and sexually assaulting a little girl has been found guilty on all counts in a Pueblo courtroom this morning.
After two weeks of testimony, the jury began their deliberation Tuesday morning. Wednesday, they announced that Jose Garcia has been found guilty of second-degree kidnapping, sexual assault and child abuse.
Garcia grabbed a 9-year-old girl on her way home from school in Pueblo in January of 2012.
The girl was later able to escape at a Colorado Springs convenience store.
After the verdict was read, the mother of the girl who was abducted by Garcia said she was pleased with the jury's decision.
"Happy...overjoyed," she said, "Justice has finally been done."
In their closing arguments, the defense argued that the DNA evidence the prosecution cited was insufficient and inconclusive.
The prosecution said that they presented a strong enough case to convict Garcia of the kidnapping and sexual assault charges.
We will bring you the sentencing as soon as it is decided by the court.
