Search On For Kidnapping Suspect

A young girl managed to break free from her kidnapper as he tried to pull her out of her front yard.

The attempted kidnapping happened around 7 p.m. Monday in Pueblo.

According to police, the 13-year-old was sitting on her porch in the area of East 19th and Norwood when a stranger pulled up to her home. The girl told police that after the man asked her a few questions--her name, if she had a working phone and if she'd seen a dog in the area--he suddenly got out of the car and grabbed her by the arm.

The girl broke free from his grasp and ran to a neighbor's home. The man drove off, and has not been located from police.

Residents in the area said it was disconcerting that the incident happened in their neighborhood.

"I understand somebody's car getting broken into, but...just for someone to try to take a kid, is just really not comforting," one neighbor told 11 News.

The suspect is described as a Hispanic man in his 30s, slim with spiky black hair. He was wearing a blue shirt and khaki shorts at the time of the incident. He reportedly had an accent.

The vehicle was initially described as a green newer-model pickup without a tailgate, but a separate witness told police it was a silver truck with two green stripes. That witness said the top stripe was wider than the bottom stripe, and that both ran from front to back along the side of the truck. It was believed to be a Ford.

If you have any information that could help police locate the suspect, call the Pueblo Police Department at 719-553-2502 or Crime Stoppers at 719-542-STOP.
