Colorado State Patrol is investigating a accident that took the life of a man Thursday afternoon about 20 miles outside of Alamosa.
Troopers say 53-year-old Ike Ellis, of Fort Garland, Colo., was killed when his truck collided with a sedan at the intersection of Rio Grande County Road 5 North and 3 East, just outside of the town of Del Norte, Colo.
The sedan was driven by 53-year-old Sam Roknich, from Highland, Ind. Troopers say Roknich failed to stop at a stop sign posted at the intersection. Ellis was ejected when his truck rolled several times. Roknich’s car caught fire in the collision, but Roknich was able to escape the vehicle.
Both drivers were flown to San Luis Regional Medical Center. Ellis was pronounced dead at the hospital. Roknich was last listed in stable condition.
Troopers are continuing to investigate this accident, but do not believe alcohol or speed were a factor.
