Many people ditched their cars and grabbed the bus Thursday in part of the national "Dump the Pump" event.
With high gas prices this summer, Pueblo Transit says they’re encouraging people to take advantage of public transportation and save money. According to the latest transit savings report, individuals in a two-person household can save an average of more than $10,000 a year just by downsizing to one car. Local transit officials say riding the bus is a convenient way to get around town.
“We want people to know about Pueblo Transit and the fact that we have bus service that we can take you just about anywhere within the city. It takes you a little bit more time, but at a dollar a ride we feel that’s a pretty good deal,” Pat Manzanares, Pueblo Transit Operations Supervisor said.
City administration and Pueblo transit staff offered refreshments throughout the day. Pueblo transit runs Monday through Saturday from 6 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. All kids 18 years old and younger ride free this summer.
