A counterfeit $20 bill was found in Pueblo Thursday. According to a police report, the bill may have been passed through a garage sale.

The police report, written by Officer Dennis Bogard, indicates that the bill was identified as counterfeit by an employee of the Family Dollar Store at 2639 N. Elizabeth. A customer reportedly told the clerk the fake bill had come from a frequent customer who claimed to have received the bill in change at a garage sale.

The clerk told police the customer didn’t realize the bill was bad. The report doesn’t indicate if police were ever able to speak with the customer, but he did leave the store before the officer arrived.

The bill was identified as counterfeit with the use of an indicator pen.

Another counterfeit $20 was passed at a garage sale in Colorado Springs last week. In that case, the bill was also identified by a store clerk when the victim of the scam tried to spend the cash at a grocery store.
