A fight over water in Southern Colorado continues.

Pueblo District Attorney Bill Thiebaut says the Southern Delivery System Project that pumps clean water from Lake Pueblo to Colorado Springs ends up sending contaminated water back to Pueblo. He previously sued the State and Colorado Springs Utilities to get it stopped. A Colorado Judge ruled that the SDS should be shut down until water standards are in place. But on Thursday the State and CO Springs Utilities appealed the Judge’s decision. On Friday Thiebaut held a press conference voicing his concern with how harmful the return water is to the community.

“Sometimes the mud comes up to the trail, if it’s got E-Coli it’s dangerous for people to touch it that’s why I wore the gloves to get the sample. I’m not sure what’s in their today," Thiebaut said.

Thiebaut says he's not giving up until Pueblo gets the quality of water it deserves. The project managers tell 11 News they have done a number of tests on the water. The decision is now in the court's hands. There is no word on how long it will take.
