Hooked - (Stacia Naquin)
Updated: 10/11/2013 - I'm SO CLOSE to being able to do a pull-up. So my trainer introduced something new into my training.
A man tries to rob a store at gunpoint but doesn’t get away with anything; in fact, he leaves behind a pretty big clue.
Pueblo County Sheriff Officials say that just minutes before the attempted robbery the suspect, 22 year old Weston Wilcox, was at the Loaf n Jug gas station on Santa Fe Drive. Authorities say he was flirting with a store clerk and left her a business card with his cell phone number on it, and that’s what helped lead to his arrest.
Just before 7pm Monday night, Wilcox walked through the door at the Unmentionable Store at 1400 Santa Fe Drive.
“He had his face covered and sunglasses on,” said store employee, Janelle Montano.
Montano says Wilcox then went up to the store clerk and demanded cash.
“And he told her give me all the money in the register,” Montano explained.
The employee refused to hand over the money and the suspect took off. Employees at Unmentionables immediately called 911. Sheriff Investigators searched the area and discovered that minutes before the attempted robbery a man meeting the suspect description was seen at the Loaf n Jug. An employee at Loaf n Jug handed over a business card that man gave her. Authorities called the number and arranged for Wilcox to meet at the Mexi-Deli on Abriendo Avenue. Investigators won’t say exactly how they got Wilcox to meet them at the Mexi-Deli but when he pulled into the parking lot they arrested him.
As for Montano, she says this close call has them paying extra attention to security at the store.
“We will be prepared if anybody does get brave enough to try and do that again,” Montano explained.
Sheriff Deputies say Wilcox was carrying a pistol. No one was injured in the attempted robbery.
Wilcox is being held at the Pueblo County Jail on several charges including robbery and menacing.
