Abandoned And Malnourished Horses Continuing To Recover

Five horses that were found abandoned and in near death conditions in Costilla County are continuing to recover.

When the horses were first found, their ribs were showing and they were extremely malnourished. The horses were then taken to the Harmony Equine Center’s Dumb Friends League, where they had to be quarantined and receive special vet care. Now they are at the DreamCatchers Equine Rescue center near Pueblo. Julie Demuesy is caring for the horses and says they are starting to have light in their eyes. The horses have gained anywhere from 15 to 30 pounds in just the past week.

“My heart just breaks for them because you can see their inner beauty. You can see how beautiful they are, and how much they’ve lost in body condition, and how long it’s going to take them to recover,” Demuesy said.

There is an ongoing investigation to locate the owner of these horses, who is facing animal neglect charges. A cash reward is being offered for anyone who may have information regarding this incident. You can call the Denver Crime Stoppers at 720-913-STOP.
