A bill that includes more than $451 million toward a new Veterans Affairs hospital in Denver has been approved by the Senate Appropriations Committee.
Colorado Democratic Sens. Mark Udall and Michael Bennet said Tuesday the bill has a total of $800 million for VA and military construction in the state.
The hospital will serve Colorado, Kansas, Nebraska and Wyoming. It's being built in the east Denver suburb of Aurora and is expected to be fully open by May 2014.
The bill also includes $146 million for construction at Fort Carson, $66 million to continue construction of a plant to destroy mustard agent at the Pueblo Chemical Depot and $39 million for a new support facility at the Army National Guard's high-altitude aviation training site in Gypsum.
