UPDATE: Chemical Exposure Illness In Pueblo Still A Mystery

The Pueblo City-County Health Department says no specific cause has been identified for the health reactions experienced by the workers at Integrated Document Solutions on Friday.

16 people became ill after they were exposed to an unknown substance. The health department says the reactions by victims were not considered serious.

Earlier, investigators found three different chemicals that could have caused a reaction, including pesticides, burnt jet fuel exhaust, and fertilizer.

The health department say as a precautionary approach for the safety of the workers, cleaning of the inside of the building will begin and the air exchange system of the building will be tested to ensure it meets national standards.

PCSO told 11 News that initially, nine employees of Integrated Document Solutions showed symptoms at work and went to the emergency room at Parkview Medical Center in Pueblo West. Seven non-employees were "indirectly exposed," and showed symptoms.

I find it strange that only a few employees from this one room in the building got sick. It would seem that if it was the building that caused this, more people in other areas would also be sick. Just wondering if there is something else at work (no pun intended) here.

@ Bob, some employees were told that it was a mere fire drill until all the firetrucks began showing up. The people that were sick left far before they evacuated the building and supervisors sent them to the PW ER. They were doing as they were told.

Next time employees need to do as they are told. These people were told to stay put at IDS to go through decomtamination. Instead they put innocent people at risk due to their impatience and caused a whole ER to be shut down because they just walked into the waiting room. All the patients in the waiting room and ER had to be decontaminated because these idiots exposed them. Next time so as you are told people, there is a reason protocols exist. Oh and the cyanide thing is BS, next time maybe your story will be more believable if you spell it correctly.

@smiley: I'm calling B.S. on your assertion that someone is in "very bad shape" with cyanide poisoning. Simply not true.

They house DOCUMENTS not CHEMICALS. Hence the name INTEGRATED DOCUMENT SOLUTIONS!! The Pueblo Chemical Depot is nearby but this is NOT it.

It is strange that people are getting sick at IDS, which primarily does data entry. But the Chemical Depot is 10 miles east. The Depot mainly stores mustard agent. If there was a leak there and the wind blew it west 10 miles, there would be a much larger affected area... not just part of one building. However, the symptoms listed are similar to mild mustard gas exposure. That could explain why Hazmat found nothing. Mustard gas symptoms can take up to 24 hours to show. Those employees could have been exposed elsewhere or Thursday or both, reducing the chances of finding detectable amounts.

well you haven't kept up with the story. One of the girls is in very bad shape and has sodium syanide poisoning. She is in Parkview hospital along with 8 more. Someone sprayed something and it came out a vent right above her.
