A father is charged with abusing his 2-month-old child.
Kurt Keetch, 19, is charged with child abuse resulting in serious injury, a felony. The infant suffered a severe head injury, bruising all over his body and a broken leg. He's had to undergo surgery just to stabilize him for transportation up to Children's Hospital in Denver.
The boy was first brought into Parkview Medical Center in Pueblo on May 7, but hospital staff called in the Sheriff’s Department when they noticed his injuries to be consistent with physical abuse.
According to court documents, Keetch admits the baby hit his head on a car seat earlier in the day, but denies the baby fell or was shaken. He also reportedly admitted that he put the baby in a car seat in a back room and covered it with a blanket while it was crying.
Doctors say the injuries are consistent with shaken baby syndrome. They had to put the child into an induced coma and believe he will require special care for the rest of his life.
According to the affidavit, Keetch told police, "The baby cries a lot, and I’m a new father and I get frustrated.”
