A woman says she had no idea thieves were stealing her jewelry while she was right in front of her own home, in fact she says she let them in.

68 year old Consuela Lerma was just trying to do a good deed.

"I always say do onto others as you would want done to you,” explained Lerma.

But her trusting spirit fell victim to what she calls a crime of opportunity.

"I feel violated you know I trusted them,” Lerma said.

Lerma was hosting a yard sale at her home in Pueblo and when two girls asked to use her bathroom, she thought nothing of it.

"I felt comfortable letting them in because I knew one from church,” Lerma said.

Lerma says once the girls were inside, they by-passed the bathroom and went for the jewelry box in her bedroom. Then the girls allegedly rifled through the box but noticed the more expensive gold jewelry behind it, jewelry worth close to $12,000 dollars. But Lerma says this has less to do with money and about the sentimental value.

"My daughters gave me that jewelry as a gift,” Lerma said.

While Lerma may never see her rings and necklaces again, she wants others to learn from what she calls a mistake.

“You're just better off not letting people in and not having to go through what I'm going through."
