DENVER (AP) -- More schools would serve breakfast after the school bell under a bill that has won initial approval in the state House.

The legislation would require schools that have 70 percent of more students who qualify for free or reduced lunch to serve breakfast after the first bell of the day. Schools would decide how and where to serve the meal.

Schools already serve breakfast, but some serve breakfast before classes begin. But some youth advocates say more students would eat breakfast if they don't have to arrive at school early.

One more vote is required before the breakfast measure heads to the Senate.
