A New York City police officer accused of plotting to cook and eat women is going on trial.
Opening statements are expected early Monday afternoon in the case against Gilberto Valle.
Federal prosecutors in Manhattan plan to use emails and other evidence to show that the 28-year-old had dangerous schemes to abduct women and devour them. They say he even drew up a list of targets using a law enforcement database.
CBS New York says the married, six-year police veteran allegedly had images and addresses of as many as 100 women that he plotted to cook. The FBI says each woman had her own file in Valle's computer.
According to the FBI, among the documents found on Valle's hard drive, one referred to as a blueprint. The full title: “Abducting and Cooking (Victim #1): A Blueprint.”
The FBI said Valle gave away details of his plot in online chatrooms, discussing with co-conspirators oven size and the most effective way to cook each women.
CBS New York obtained details of the online chat from the FBI.
“How could we put her over the fire, spitting kills the girl. Have to put her in kind of cage. What is your favorite cut of meat,” a co-conspirator allegedly asked.
According to CBS New York, Valle allegedly responded: “I was thinking of tying her body to some kind of apparatus… cook her over low heat, keep her alive as long as possible.”
Defense witnesses are expected to describe how he lived in a secret fantasy world. They say participants role play and fantasize about cannibalism, but never act on it.
