The Grand Junction Police Department is suspending its homeless outreach program because of staff shortages.

Two officers assigned to the program are being reassigned to patrol because the department does not have enough officers to respond to emergencies.

According to the Grand Junction Daily Sentinel, the program uses police officers to build relationships and get people in touch with various services, including substance-abuse treatment, housing and employment.
