A dump-truck driver accused of hitting and killing a bicyclist near Boulder has been convicted of careless driving resulting in death.
The Daily Camera reports the jury handed down the verdict Friday against Christopher Loven, who is scheduled to be sentenced May 2.
Investigators say Loven was hauling a trailer with his dump truck when he struck and killed 73-year-old Eugene "Phil" Howrey on Lefthand Canyon Drive on June 17, 2011.
Loven was ticketed in 2009 on suspicion of reckless endangerment after a cyclist said Loven used his truck to push him into oncoming traffic. Court records show Loven pleaded guilty to the misdemeanor charge and was sentenced to probation and community service in that case.
On Friday, he told Howrey's family he never wanted to hurt anyone.
