The head of prisons for the state of Colorado has resigned.

The Department of Corrections says Mark Flowers turned in his resignation Thursday morning. It was effective immediately.

Flowers became the Director of Prisons in May. Executive Director Rick Raemisch thanked Flowers for his service and said he wishes him well.

The DOC would not comment on the reason behind the departure. Lou Archuleta, the current warden for Fremont Correctional Facility, is now the Interim Director of Prisons. Kellie Wasko will be the Interim Deputy Executive Director and Renae Jordan was named Interim Director of Clinical and Correctional Services.
