Former Clinton Cabinet member Federico Pena says he is endorsing Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama.

A formal announcement is scheduled later Friday.

Pena was secretary of energy and secretary of transportation under President Bill Clinton. He was mayor of Denver from 1983 to 1991 and is now a managing partner of a Denver investment company.

Obama, an Illinois senator, trails Hillary Clinton in most polls.

In a written statement, Pena praised Obama's judgment and leadership.
