A Custer County man is the fourth person to die of hantavirus this year, but officials suspect he contracted the disease elsewhere.

The victim was identified as 66-year-old Fred Sharp of Silver Cliff Ranch, a camp and retreat near Westcliffe.

Hantavirus is carried by deer mice and the disease is transmitted through contact with their urine or feces.
