A 36-year-old woman is dead after she jumped to her death from a moving ambulance on Interstate 25 in Greenwood Village, just south of Denver.

It happened about 2:30 p.m. Sunday as a crew from Action Care Ambulance Incorporated was taking Melissa O. Watkins to a hospital.

It's not clear why the woman was being taken to the hospital in the first place.

Police say the woman jumped out on her own accord, and did not 'fall' out of the ambulance.

No other vehicles hit the woman, but she died at Swedish Medical Center.

An emergency medical technician and a paramedic were both with the woman when she jumped. They were offered trauma counseling.
