Wildlife Agents Put Down Bear Feeding At Campgrounds

Wildlife agents have put down a bear that was being fed, even petted, at a campground west of Glenwood Springs.

District wildlife manager Sonia Marzec says the agency wanted to make sure the bear didn't hurt anyone. Last weekend, a bear dragged eleven-year-old Sam Ives from his tent in Utah and mauled him to death.

Marzec said her staff had received reports of people feeding and petting the bear at Ami's Acres Campgrounds.

She said that, when approached by a wildlife officer, the bear didn't back off.

They staked out the area, and when it returned, the three- to four-year-old female was shot last night.

Poor bear, doesn't know any better. Too bad we can't shoot the out of state tourists with something to teach them not to feed the bears.
