Updated: 05/20/2013 - Two weekends left to catch one great show!
A fanciful forest of professionally-decorated holiday trees is taking shape in an unusual place, as part of a weekend celebration and fundraiser.
The Festival of Trees is a three-day event at the Doubletree World Arena, involving a gala auction of the trees Friday, followed by two days of public viewing. Ticket proceeds benefit Ecumenical Social Ministries.
It's expected to take the decorators nearly two days to add their unique and high-end touches to the big trees, all with the theme of "Christmas in Colorado".
During the public viewing Saturday and Sunday, people also will be able to shop at the holiday boutique, enjoy entertainment and children's activities.
This is the second year that ESM has put on the Festival of Trees. The non-profit organization provides outreach, services and resources to Colorado Springs' homeless and low-income population. Programs offered involve food, medicine, housing, job placement, and educational opportunities.
The gala starts with a cocktail hour at 6 p.m. Friday. Tickets are $125 per person.
Public viewing hours are Saturday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tickets are $6 for adults, and $3 for children. A $1 discount will be given for donations of 2 cans of non-perishable food.
