No one is sure why, but Steamboat Springs set a record for births last month.

The earlier recorded, 49, was set in July of 2006.

The Steamboat Pilot reports that last month, 59 infants were born.

Yampa Valley Medical Center spokeswoman Riley Polumbus said the numbers of births has been rising as more people move into northwest Colorado.

Dr. Mary Bowman, who delivered many of them, said maybe it was the cold winter.
