A Colorado State Trooper has died after his motorcycle collided with a deer.
State Trooper Mark Dold was off-duty when the crash happened this morning shortly after 10 a.m. Dold was heading north on Colorado highway 550 one mile north of Ridgway when a herd of deer entered crossed the road in front of him. When Dold tried to avoid hitting a deer, he lost control of his 1999 Honda motorcycle.
Dold's motorcycle ran off the right side of the road and down an embankment. He was ejected from the motorcycle and his body hit a large fence post, resulting in fatal injuries. He was wearing a helmet, but was pronounced dead at the scene.
Trooper Dold was stationed at Troop 5-A in Durango, CO. He is survived his parents, wife, two sons and a daughter.
