Five children were reunited with their father in front of their whole school Friday. It was a touching Veterans’ Day surprise planned by their parents.
Tony Franz was deployed to Afghanistan on Veterans’ Day of 2010.
“When they said goodbye to dad last year on Veterans’ Day at the Denver Airport, it was kinda rough,” said Tony’s wife, Theresa Franz.
He returned to the United States recently, but Tony and Theresa kept it a secret. They took some time to enjoy their own reunion. It also helped them delay his appearance to the children until this special day.
The reunion took place during a Veterans Day assembly at Bear Creek Elementary in Monument. Theresa called her children up on the stage, then took a moment to thank the people who’d helped her through the past year.
Before the big reveal, she asked her kids to cover their eyes. When they uncovered them, they squealed with joy and rushed to him for a hug.
“It was very exciting to see them,” Tony Franz said, “Its overwhelming and every time they yell and shriek is always nice.”
“We’re glad to have him home and safe,” Theresa said.
