US Officials: Not Quite So Many Gitmo Re-Offenders

Fewer former Gitmo detainees rejoined terrorist groups after being released than previously reported, according to a new government intelligence report.

Camp Delta at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba

WASHINGTON (AP) -- The Director of National Intelligence says far fewer detainees released from Guantanamo Bay rejoined terrorist activities than previously reported.

In a new report released Monday, the intelligence office says just under 16 percent of detainees released -- 95 out of 600 -- were confirmed to re-offend. Some 12 percent more -- about 72 detainees -- are suspected of having rejoined terror groups, and are being watched. That's from Pentagon spokesman Todd Breasseale.

A Republican congressional report in February added those two figures together, coming up with a much more dramatic rate of 27 percent of detainees returning to the battlefield.

The intelligence report does warn that detainees released to countries that are unstable are more likely to re-offend, an apparent reference to those released in Yemen.

Im surprised Obama doesn't make Kool-aide mandatory and outlaw soda. After all, it would be cheaper and could save us thousands of dollars over a period of years.

All terrorists should be given punch cards. Each time they rejoin the enemy they get their cards punched and after the third punch they are returned to gitmo unless it is already full of American citizens.

And three lawyers who represented Gitmo detainees were just hired by the Department of Justice, one is in the number three spot, behind Eric Holder. Sharia law coming for the U.S.?
