Southern Colorado Law Enforcement Helps With Training In Afghanistan

Law Enforcement officials from southern Colorado are in Afghanistan today, helping Fort Carson Soldiers train Afghan police.

Peter Carey, Colorado Springs Chief of Police; Mark Smith, Colorado Springs Deputy Chief of Police; and Todd Evans, Fountain Chief of Police are sharing the lessons they've learned and training local police chiefs and U.S. military advisers on topics including community policing, public order and security, and protecting the public.

The training is happening at the 4th Infantry Division Headquarters in Afghanistan. Soldiers stationed there are responsible to train, advise and assist the Afghan National Security Forces. They also conduct some security operations in southern Afghanistan.

In a news release, the Army says the visit is the first of its kind in Afghanistan.
