Hundreds of Fort Carson soldiers marched through downtown Colorado Springs Friday morning on a mission.

Called "Operation Happy Holiday," 500 soldiers braved the cold on their mission to help those who need it most this holiday season. The soldiers were from the 1st Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division.

The group met at Dorchester Park at 7:30 a.m., where they packed their bags with food, clothes, even toys. From there, they marched to the Marion House, where they delivered those gifts to people needing a little bit of help this holiday season.

"It's a chance for us to give back to the local community by donating items to the Marion House charities," Lt. Col. Geoffrey Norman said.

This is the second holiday season soldiers have participated in Operation Happy Holiday. The event started in 2009. The event was skipped last year due to the brigade's deployment to Afghanistan.

Its nice to know that some people actually care about the less fortunate instead of cryin about what they dont have.

It would be nice for people to pause at least once a year and recognize the irony of our policies that create some of the less fortunate.

Why not look up the National Defense Authorization Act which was just passed by the senate. Why isn't this getting any coverage? Because it's not a good thing. When your heroes turn on you it will not be a feel good PR story.

WOW!! I am truely amazed at how hateful people can be. These soldiers volunteered to do nothing but help out thier fellow human being during the Holidays. We do it all year with can food drives and things like that but they aren't in the news everytime. Would you of walked the distance they did in the freezing cold the other day to do that?? probably not but yet you are perfectly fine bashing these men and women that took time out of thier day to help someone. You should be ashamed of yourselves

Thanks to John McCain for authoring legislation that was passed this week. Hopefully it will not get signed into law. No need to turn the USA into a military detention zone. Nothing about this one on the news. Wonder why. Is McCain still a hero?

It can't be Christmas everyday but at least it can be wartime everyday.
