Hundreds of Fort Carson soldiers marched through downtown Colorado Springs Friday morning on a mission.
Called "Operation Happy Holiday," 500 soldiers braved the cold on their mission to help those who need it most this holiday season. The soldiers were from the 1st Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division.
The group met at Dorchester Park at 7:30 a.m., where they packed their bags with food, clothes, even toys. From there, they marched to the Marion House, where they delivered those gifts to people needing a little bit of help this holiday season.
"It's a chance for us to give back to the local community by donating items to the Marion House charities," Lt. Col. Geoffrey Norman said.
This is the second holiday season soldiers have participated in Operation Happy Holiday. The event started in 2009. The event was skipped last year due to the brigade's deployment to Afghanistan.
