Hooked - (Stacia Naquin)
Updated: 10/11/2013 - I'm SO CLOSE to being able to do a pull-up. So my trainer introduced something new into my training.
Soldiers from the 101st Airborne Combat Aviation Brigade out of Fort Campbell, Ky were rescued off Pikes Peak Saturday by helicopters from Fort Carson. They were on a high-altitude training mission at the time.
Some of the rescued soldiers showed signs of dehydration and oxygen deprivation on the peak.
At the time of the rescue, the summit reportedly had "blizzard-like" conditions with wind gusts of over 50 mph making it hard for the helicopters to assist. Three soldiers may have suffered hypothermia, and another an unspecified leg injury.
In all, ten soldiers were taken to a hospital. Nine were released within two hours. The last was hospitalized for observation.
El Paso County Search and Rescue also assisted Fort Carson with the rescue efforts, which took several hours. At last report, the soldiers were brought down to 2 Mile and flown out.
