Maj. Nicholas Moses returned to Colorado after a twelve moth deployment Thursday. His first order of business was to go straight to the principal’s office.

“It used to be one of my dreams to be a teacher or principal one day, now I get to be a principal for a day,” he said.

Moses is a contingency contracting officer, but isn’t part of a unit with Fort Carson because his headquarters is actually in San Antonio. Because of that, he didn’t attend the same welcome home ceremony held for other soldiers on the Mountain Post Thursday morning.

Instead, Moses and his wife Deborah planned to hide in the principal’s office at Fountain Middle School. Their daughter, Imane, was called in with a decidedly worried look on her face and literally jumped when she saw her father sitting where she expected the principal to be.

“This is the number one student,” Moses said looking at his daughter.

This was Moses' fifth deployment.
