Report: VA Failing To Provide Timely Mental Care

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Federal investigators say that nearly half of the veterans who seek mental health care for the first time are waiting about 50 days before receiving a full evaluation, a much longer lag-time than what the Department of Veterans Affairs has reported.

The VA has been saying that 95 percent of new patients seeking mental health treatment get a full evaluation within the department's goal of 14 days. But an inspector general's report obtained by The Associated Press said that the department's tracking is flawed and that the VA was overstating its success.

The department has greatly beefed up staffing in recent years, but the report also confirmed that the VA's doctors and other medical staff don't believe they have the manpower necessary to handle the ever-growing veteran caseload.

I have given up complaining to them. If you want a robot responce go ahead but it will only add to the debt of the U.S government same old story how can some one that served 2 1/2 years in the Army only deployed 1 time to NTC and got med board out gets more attention than like me 3 trips to Bosnia and three trips to Iraq. and they brag about it please some one explain that to me

The VA is largely staffed by older, fat, unhealthy and not so bright employees. Like most office jocks in the federal government, they do everything at their own sweet pace. You don't say, they're not running an effective operation?!

OMG! I think (if you've made complaints yet) that you'd probably be taken more seriously if you could put together a coherent written sentence.
