An Army helicopter pilot spotted the body of a missing hiker near Cascade Falls Tuesday afternoon. Wayne Kirkbride, 61, of Monument, disappeared on a hike near Moun Antero Sunday.
The Chaffee County Sheriff's office says it appears that Kirkbride fell from the crest of a steep slope near Cascade Falls. He was found around 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, but the time and date of his death are still unknown.
Kirkbride was a retired Army Special Forces lieutenant colonel.
The body was found on steep, rugged terrain that is difficult to access, and the Sheriff's Office says it will not be retrieved until Wednesday.
The Colorado Army National Guard was called in to help rescuers search for Kirkbride, in addition to various rescue teams and search dog groups.
