France's defense ministry says four of its troops have been killed and five others wounded during an operation in eastern Afghanistan Saturday.
The defense ministry says in a statement Saturday the attack happened in the region of Kapisa while the French troops were operating in support of the Afghan National Army.
Afghan officials say a Taliban suicide bomber disguised as a woman and wearing a burqa blew himself up in a market where the troops were gathered.
A Taliban spokesman claimed responsibility for the attack in an email and said both French troops and Afghan police officers were killed in the explosion.
Afghan officials say they have no reports of Afghan policemen being killed.
