Why The Video Looks Shaky (Don Ward)
Updated: 06/18/2013 - We did a quick helicopter tour of the Black Forest burn area. Someone asked why the video looks shaky.
The U.S. military's departure from Iraqi soil has left the city of Greensboro, N.C. with a sad distinction: It was home to the last U.S. soldier to die fighting in that war.
David Emanuel Hickman was killed on Nov. 14 in Baghdad, when a homemade bomb exploded during a patrol by his unit. The 23-year-old soldier was buried last month after a large ceremony packed with family and friends.
The final U.S. death toll from nearly nine years of war is 4,487 killed. More than 32,000 were wounded during the war, which began in 2003 and toppled the dictatorship of Saddam Hussein.
Logan Trainum, a friend of Hickman's, spoke with the soldier a week before he died, and says Hickman was looking forward to coming home.
