For 75 soldiers and their family members, the new year couldn't be off to a better start.
After more than four months in Afghanistan, and several adjustments to their return time, soldiers from the 576th Engineer Company arrived at Fort Carson Friday morning, just in time to ring in 2012 at home.
The unit arrived at about 9:50 a.m. to a homecoming ceremony in the Special Events Center.
The soldiers deployed to Afghanistan in August, where they conducted route clearance operations in an area from Kandahar Airfield to Camp Leatherneck as part of Task Force Rugged.
While overseas, the unit disarmed and removed over 40 homemade bombs.
