Updated: 05/14/2013 - I'm still focused on meeting my goal of doing a pull-up. And I'm almost there! But I'm always getting this question:
More women are graduating from the Air Force Academy in 2012 than last year (21.5 percent versus 20 percent in 2011), and three sets of twins will walk the stage Wednesday.
Those are just a couple of interesting stats about the class of 2012.
Other interesting tidbits include:
-21.7 percent of the 1,073 cadets graduating are minorities. Of these, 90 graduates are Hispanic, 84 Asian-Pacific Islander, 52 African American and five Native American.
-There are also 14 international students graduating, hailing from: Belize, Brunei, El Salvador, Honduras, Korea, Madagascar, Peru, Poland, Senegal, Serbia-Montenegro, Singapore, Slovenia, Taiwan and Tunisia.
-There are 57 second-generation graduates.
-Sixty cadets graduating Wednesday are the second child in their family to graduate from the Academy. Four cadets are third-child graduates and two are fourth-child.
-There are 529 rated officers in the class.
-Four hundred and ninety cadets are going to pilot training following graduation, 29 will work with remotely piloted aircrafts, eight are going into combat system operator training (navigators), and two are going into air battle manager training.
-Graduates from the Class of 2012 who enter pilot
training incur an active duty service commitment of ten years after earning their wings. For combat system operators, the service
commitment is six years after successful completion of training. All
remaining graduates incur a five-year active duty service commitment.
-The class is graduating with an average cumulative GPA 2.97
-Five hundred and sixty-six AFA graduates have gone on to attain the rank of general.
