A several-months-long investigation into multiple flashing and child luring incidents in El Paso County led to the arrest of a Fort Carson soldier late last month.
Aaron Gregory Lucas, 31, was arrested on Oct. 23 in connection to a series of sex offenses allegedly committed over the last two years in Fountain, Colorado Springs, and unincorporated El Paso County.
The Fountain Police Department, Colorado Springs Police Department and El Paso County Sheriff's Office learned through the course of the last several months that each agency was investigating similar sexual crimes committed against young girls in their area, dating back to the summer of 2010 when Lucas first was stationed at Fort Carson.
According to authorities, Lucas was allegedly exposing himself, then luring or attempting to lure girls under the age of 12 to commit sexual acts with him.
Court records obtained by 11 News Saturday night include dates of Lucas' alleged activities. At least two of those dates coincide with stories followed closely by 11 News.
One indicates Lucas' possible involvement with the abduction of a girl in the Stratmoor Valley area near Security.
In June of this year a man briefly abducted an 8-year-old girl. According to the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office, the girl was abducted in the area of Stratmoor Valley along the 1200 block of Forest Road at 3:30 p.m. She was released about 20 minutes later.
The El Paso County Sheriff's Office has confirmed that Lucas is a suspect in this case. We spoke to the family Sunday night. They tell us they're relieved the suspect has been arrested. The sheriff's office notified them the other day about the arrest.
In another case, in June of 2010, a man reportedly exposed himself to a young girl behind a dumpster. This happened at an apartment complex near South Nevada Avenue and Southgate Boulevard in Colorado Springs. The man then reportedly molested the girl before she could get away. Though this date coincides with court documents, a link with Lucas has not yet been confirmed with authorities.
Sunday, the Sheriff's Office released details about a more recent incident allegedly involving Lucas. On Oct. 16 of this year, a 7-year-old girl was approached by a man matching Lucas' description while walking home from school in the Stratmoor Hills area. EPSO says the suspect made a sexual comment and grabbed the child's hand. The little girl managed to get away safely.
Investigators have said they plan to talk to 11 News in the coming days to answer questions about Lucas' alleged involvement with these crimes.
We've learned that he is from Alabama, but spent some time in Fountain during the 1990's. One of his neighbors at Fort Carson tells us she's shocked since Lucas reportedly has two young children of his own.
Fountain police tell 11 News one of their officers spotted Aaron Lucas near a school in Fountain a few months ago. He thought the man matched the physical description of the suspect in recent child luring cases. We're told the officer spoke with the man and got his information. That's when the investigation began into Aaron Lucas.
Lucas faces multiple counts of kidnapping, sexual assault on a child, enticement of a child and indecent exposure. The Fountain Police Department, the Colorado Springs Police Department, El Paso County Sheriff’s Office, the Fourth Judicial District Attorney’s Office and the U.S. Army Criminal Investigations Division were all involved in the investigation.
Anyone with information about Lucas' alleged crimes is encouraged to call the Fountain Police Department at 382-8555, the Colorado Springs Police Department at 444-7000, the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office at 390-5555, or Crime Stoppers at 634-STOP.
