Memorial For Fort Carson Soldier Killed In Afghanistan

A memorial service is being held on Fort Carson to honor the memory of a soldier killed by an IED in Afghanistan earlier this month.

Fort Carson's Soldiers Memorial Chapel is hosting a solemn service Wednesday. The memorial service is for Staff Sgt. David P. Nowaczyk, who was killed in action on April 15.

The Department of Defense says Staff Sgt. Nowaczyk, 32, of Dyer Ind., was in an army vehicle when it was attacked with an improvised explosive device.

He was in Kunar province, Afghanistan, and assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 12th Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division.
