Fort Carson A Test Site For Women In New Jobs

FORT CARSON, Colo. (AP) -- Fort Carson is one of six Army installations where women will be allowed in previously closed jobs for a six-month trial.

The Pentagon announced in February that thousands of jobs closer to front lines would be opened to women. The Army said last week Fort Carson is among the locations for the trial.

A 1994 policy bans women from ground combat units below the brigade level. Brigades have roughly 3,500 troops and their headquarters are traditionally away from the front lines.

The new policy allows women to serve at the battalion level. Battalions have about 800 soldiers and are usually in closer contact with an enemy.

The trial begins May 14. The other Army sites are Fort Hood, Texas, Fort Knox, Ky., Fort Drum, N.Y., Fort Campbell, Ky., and Hawaii.

They are already on the front lines. They are some of the Soldiers who go on patrols, deliver fuel, food, ammo, parts, repair broken equipment. All on the front line. So unless they are going to be IN, AR, CAV, or FA troops there is no change. And frankly the the job of a support Soldier is harder and more demanding anyway.

If your capable of doing the job then rock on! I think the problem will be lots of women are going to sign up for these jobs then realize they can't do it, and that wastes time and money in training.

Well, then. Hooray for equal rights! Now, if all women between the ages of 18 and 35 will just mosey on down to their local Post Office and sign up for Selective Service, the world will be just dandy.

This is already happening and had been for a while. This is simply a paperwork shuffle to satisfy the rabid feminists and makes a great sounds bite for the upcoming political season. Go liberals. For the people who will want to flip out about my comment...I've been in the Army for over 18 years and I'm a female
