A Fort Carson soldier's life and service to his country was honored in a memorial service Thursday.
Staff Sgt. Joe A. Nunezrodriguez, 29, was killed in Afghanistan on May 30 after his vehicle was hit by an IED. Nunezrodriguez was serving in the Wardak Province at the time of his death.
Nunezrodriguez is from Pasadena, Texas, but had been serving with the 68th Combat Support Sustainment Battalion, Sustainment Brigade, 4th Infantry Division out of Fort Carson.
Mourners gathered at the Soldier's Memorial Chapel on Fort Carson to remember him.
"He was just very inspirational," Spc. Katherine Griego said. "Every time he'd see a soldier down he brought their spirits up. Always ready for a mission and always excited to go out."
During the memorial Nunezrodriguez was honored with a 21 gun salute and the playing of taps.
