Former CIA Officer Accused Of Terror Leaks

ALEXANDRIA, Va. (AP) -- An ex-CIA officer charged with leaking classified secrets about fellow officers to the media has been ordered released on a $250,000 unsecured bond.

Forty-seven-year-old John Kiriakou of Arlington is charged with violating the Intelligence Identities Protection Act and the Espionage Act. He made an initial appearance in federal court in Alexandria on Monday afternoon.

His lawyer, Plato Cacheris, waived Kiriakou's right to a preliminary hearing. After the hearing, Cacheris told a reporter that a potential defense argument could be that the charges criminalize conduct that has been common between reporters and government sources for decades.

If convicted, he could face decades in prison and a fine up to $1 million.

CIA is corrupt. CIA is not allowed to work within the united states yet they do. wake up people the CIA has secret ops in just about every major political office in the US(ie;governors offices) gee one of their own spills info. hmmm why would he do that unless there was something to gain. police state is here. we no longer have a constitution. If you know about the NDAA bill you know that anyone they want "detained indefinetly" will be labeled a terrorist. wake up and read it for yourself. Dont trust your government. they dont trust you.

@Bradman: While it's always hilarious to watch ignorant folks, such as yourself, make fools of themselves in public, I'll take the high road. Feel free to peruse the CIA's website. Or, you know...stay ignorant.

Bradman's comment is an example of why an idiot should never call out others as idiots. The story doesn't mention terrorism, and the CIA does more than 'the War on Terror. Wow's comment is on point.

Poor headline. Nowhere in the story does it say he leaked anything related to terrorism. He leaked identities to the media.
